Sustainability and caring for the environment
At Sa Rota, we worry about nature and take full responsibility for it. We look after our natural surroundings because we want to conserve and improve them. That’s why we’ve taken several environmental measures aimed at reducing the energy we consume and the waste we produce.
Energy savings
Thanks to our very own 15 kVA photovoltaic system, we are able to generate our own electricity. As another way of saving energy, we also use motion sensor lights in both shared areas and the main house. Likewise, the apartments are all equipped with a centralised energy consumption control system, meaning that the lights, air conditioning and fans all turn off automatically when our guests remove their digital key from their apartment.
Some of our other measures include:
– The air conditioning turns off whenever the windows or doors of the property are opened.
– The property is fitted with ceiling fans throughout, and we encourage our guests to use them instead of the air conditioning.
Waste reduction
We constantly strive to reduce our waste by making recycling at our on-site waste management point easier. In addition, inside each apartment is a unit comprising different compartments, allowing our guests to separate their waste.
Some of our other measures include:
– Our local water supplier only uses returnable bottles.
– We recommend that our guests shop at the weekly market in Sineu or at Agromart, a store that sells local produce while avoiding the use of plastic, and also that they use their own shopping baskets and returnable jars.
– Using low-consumption light bulbs.
– Using water flow restrictors.
– Changing towels only upon request. Otherwise, they are changed once a week.
Reducing the use of resources
We try to reduce the resources we use as much as possible to help protect nature. For example, the shade in our car park is provided by trees, while most plants in the garden are endemic and drought-tolerant. In addition, at Sa Rota, we collect rainwater from the roofs using a traditional Roman method, which we then use to water the plants and for personal consumption.
